Projects cover the whole of the transport sector and in the related fields of tourism, telecommunications, land-use, regeneration and development. Clients include government. operators, financiers, regulators, developers and other interest groups.

Project

Business systems strategy followed by definition and selection of a new integrated project costing and accounting system.

Scale

300+ professional staff, 8 UK & overseas offices, £25m+ turnover.

Scope of requirements

CRM, bid monitoring, resources, project budgets, project costing, accounting ledgers, HR & Payroll, multi-currency & multi-language.

Issues

Rapid Growth - in terms of new UK and international offices, project types and sizes and growing staff numbers.

Access to up to date management information - data was held in many different systems making access to consolidated information difficult and time consuming.

Company wide and Group specific view of management information - management board require to see the performance of the whole business, local groups only require information specific to their area.

Outgrown current project costing system - SDG had outgrown its current project costing system and had lost confidence in its operation.

Need for appropriate systems - desire for business systems to be inline with the activities of the business and to be seen as a modern, efficient, systems savvy organisation by clients and competitors.

Fully integrated business systems - requiring the entry of key information only once.

Summary

A business systems strategy was produced summarising the status of the existing systems, the target system and the recommended approach to achieving the required  system. Subsequently user requirements were documented and an ITT produced which was issued to a small group of potential suppliers. Supplier proposals were evaluated and short-listed for further demonstration and final system selection.

“Microguide showed us very clearly the main strategic options including how to incorporate the best of our existing systems. They helped us develop a coherent strategy and management approach to enable us to move forward in achieving our systems objectives”
Stephen Crouch , Financial Director
