Fourdale Export Services Limited

Fourdale Export Services is a privately owned company (formed in 1974) to specialise in the worldwide movement of cargo. For the past 20 years particular emphasis has been given to especially time sensitive international shipments, in particular for the medical research community, both commercial and institutional. A 20 user network was being used to support a bespoke billing system and packaged accounting and office productivity software.

Systems review.

1 warehouse, 20+ employees, 3m+ turnover.

Scope of requirements

Freight billing and administration, finance, office automation.

Bespoke billing application - an independent review was required of the innovative bespoke billing system to confirm whether it was providing a competitive edge.

Infrastructure standardisation - management needed assistance to determine the most appropriate computer systems infrastructure capable of supporting the existing and future business operations.

Under-utilised facilities - management perceived that the Microsoft Office productivity software was not being used to its full potential.

Organisational and operational shortcomings - management required guidance on what changes were required to the organisation and operational procedures to improve productivity.

A review and audit was undertaken involving interviews with a cross section of managers and staff. The resulting review included a 20 point action plan for improvement. It was concluded that the existing bespoke billing system was providing competitive advantage although a number of enhancements were proposed to improve processing.
