Medium sized Firm of solicitors
Background Medium sized Firm of solicitors specialising in personal injury, wills & probate, employment law and conveyancing. |
Project
High spot review. Scale 3 UK locations, 7 partners, 200 fee earners. Scope of requirements Case management, time and expense recording and office automation. |
Issues
Substantial increase in volume of cases being handled - the case management software was struggling to handle the data volumes. Hardware purchased 2 years earlier was under configured and almost obsolete - the server hardware had limited expansion capabilities. The IT department were proposing extensive expenditure on additional hardware - no clear justification or explanation for recommendations was being made. Management were inclined to do nothing and continue with the existing configuration - management wanted to know the risks involved with this option and whether there were any alternatives. Improved office systems - a new system was required supporting modern office facilities such as e-mail, Internet access and fax from the desktop.

Summary
The high level review resulted in a plan of action for the Firm involving the clear identification of future requirements and likely business volumes along with a risk assessment and identification of likely order of costs and discussions with the application software authors and the need to undertake systems and database tuning. |
